    Optimizing Video on Your CMS

    by: Elizabeth

    Auctori Web Content Management System

When implementing a video component in your company’s marketing strategy, it is imperative to ensure your videos are drawing optimal traffic to your website.  Simply adding tags and keywords (which are still important) will not optimize your video to their full potential.

In most cases, it is easier to embed code into your site after your video is uploaded to YouTube.  This, however, only draws traffic to YouTube and not your website itself.  Though your video may still be recognized in the search engines, it will direct the viewer to YouTube.com to view the video, and not your website.  In essence, you’ve spent all of that time optimizing YouTube‘s site.  If you use a CMS and are able to access your website through a login, you can follow these tips to better optimize videos on your website:

    1) Write static content. Before embedding your video, make sure the web page has static content describing the video.  Those accessing your site with slower Internet connections or from a mobile device may have to wait until the video uploads; adding content describing the video gives them more incentive to stay on the page while the video loads.

    2) Include the word “video” in your description. When logged into your CMS, include the word “video” both in static content on your website and in meta data, as users often use the word “video” when searching.

    3) Create a video sitemap. Search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo! use sitemaps to index your website’s content.  Just as you create a sitemap for your entire site, a sitemap needs to be created for the video itself.

    4) Place all of the videos in the same folder on your computer. You can organize your site’s documents within your computer in a folder that you label “Video.”  Rather than just piling more files onto your website and spontaneously adding more code, organize the contents into their own folders, just as you would on your desktop.  Doing so will allow search engines to locate your site’s videos easier.

    5) Increase web traffic social media on your website. Enabling “share” buttons allows site visitors to share your content on the web through a variety of social networks drawing more traffic to your website.

Using HTML5 and Cross Platform Development for Applications

    by: Elizabeth

Cross platform development now gives developers the tools to deliver native application experiences to a variety of devices (mobile, desktop, tablets, etc.)

HTML5 is now giving application developers the opportunity to create apps compatible with compliant mobile devices and PC’s, while eliminating the need to recreate the application for each type of mobile device.

HTML5 allows developers to use the same code for web apps for desktops as they can while creating an app for the iPad or other tablets.

In the past, developers needed to not only create applications for multiple operating systems, they needed to determine which mobile platforms to support and develop applications for. This means developers had to create a variation of the application for each device type or to choose which device they created an application for – omitting the other.

The advent of cross-platform development tools allows developers to reach a broader audience of users.  This new development framework allows for the creation of “Write Once, Run Anywhere” applications.

In an interview for Read Write Web’s article HTML5 is Great for Mobile, Developers Say, Developer Kevin Systrom states that “The fact that apps can be directly installed by URL rather than by waiting for an App Store download means that developers reduce barriers to virality.”

As developers begin to utilize HTML5 more frequently, it can help decrease the cost and time of developing devices – thus increasing productivity for clients.

Adding an E-Commerce Component to School Websites

    by: Elizabeth

CNN recently stated: “2011 will be a gold rush on the next mobile E-Commerce frontier.”  This year, it is imperative that school websites are mobile ready and an E-Commerce component is implemented.   Enabling payments of any kind to be made through a school’s website increases opportunities for fundraising and promptness of payments. Implementing an E-Commerce component into websites allows schools to:

    1. Accept Payments for School Merchandise, Lunch, Club Dues, etc.
The process of sending invoices and receiving payments becomes more efficient as all can be sent and paid online.

    2. Accept Donations Online from Parents and Alumni
Alumni and parents have the ability to make donations online rather than sending payments through mail. Multilingual content management systems allow for translations into different languages which will allow students with multilingual families to view the site in their native language.

    3. Host Fundraisers Online
Hosting a fundraiser online allows your school to collect funds from donors across the globe and from those who are unable to contribute at school events.

    4. Camp Registration
Rather than receiving hand-written checks for summer camp, schools can give parents/guardians the opportunity to register their child online.  By using a content management system’s form builder, website administrators can easily create registration forms.

    5. Event Ticket Sales
Creating an online ticketing platform within a school’s website gives attendees an opportunity to purchase their tickets ahead of time.

Cloud Computing Soars to the Stratosphere

    by: Elizabeth

Cloud computing has gained serious momentum throughout the last year, as it delivers services to aid in the efficiency of business processes.

Global cloud computing service, Auctori CMS, exceeds that of other SaaS providers available today.  A technical partner for businesses, Auctori has bridged the gap between dynamic websites and internal service tools.

Auctori allows companies to add, edit, and delete information on their website while adding, editing, and deleting internal documents – all on the same platform.  Auctori completely eliminates the need for multiple service tools.

Currently, many businesses use mobile applications that offer business solutions to help organize their daily tasks but in order to efficiently run and organize a business this way, multiple apps must be used. Auctori combines multiple services and can be accessed by a mobile device anywhere in the world.

    Why is it different?
Auctori is a safe haven for all internal documents.  Information in this cloud is protected and backed up around the clock. The documents within Auctori are secure, unlike information on open source sites which can be easily hacked, stolen, modified, and even deleted.

Not only does Auctori allow employees to work in the same space, it allows the site administrator to control who has access to the site and how much access each particular employee is granted.  All users with access to the site are not necessarily given permission to access the site in its entirety; another feature of Auctori’s security benefits.

Businessweek recently stated that 87% of consumers with computer and Internet access use at least one cloud-based service.  As companies grow, it becomes more imperative that they have a single, safe service to store all of their information on.

Tom Lounbios, writer of the Cloud Corner Blog states, “The growth in cloud capacity in 2010 has been startling, even to us that have been watching closely.  It’s a clear barometer that cloud computing is primed for takeoff in the Enterprise in 2011.”

City Web Content Management Systems Become Equipped for Government Websites

    by: Elizabeth

Content management systems expand as the need for government-friendly websites grow.
There is currently a very high demand from cities looking to deploy a CMS that is secure, scalable and easy to use, as it is imperative for a city’s website information to remain accurate and up to date in order to keep residents informed and connected.

Recently, the need for content management solutions has grown well beyond the city and municipality sector.  It has become increasingly apparent that this type of solution is required by many levels of government as well as citizen focused service organizations such as tourism and chambers.

It is crucial for government organizations and other groups that serve the needs of citizens to be represented by a strong, search engine optimized and updated website.  In order to deliver timely information, the content must be added in real time.  Whether it is a government, non-profit organization, ambulance/fire district, police department or other community focused organization like public transit, tourism or chamber, citizens expect these organizations to provide information, direction and solutions.  People need to feel confident in going to the government or organization’s web page to view the same, if not more, information they will find on news websites.

As the growing need for governments to engage the public through social networks increases, they require a website that can be updated just as easily and quickly.  Content management systems will continue to evolve with the rapidly-changing web.

Wentzville Missouri Recognized as One of the Top City Government Sites in the State

    by: Elizabeth

Wentzville, MO has been recognized by Juggle.com as one of the top websites in the state of Missouri.  In a recent interview with Wentzville’s City Administrator Diana Wright, Juggle.com got an in-depth look at what went into creating wentzvillemo.org.

The City of Wentzville chose The Net Impact for their web design and development to create an innovative web marketing solution – powered by Auctori:city™, a content management system specifically tailored to cities.  From there, Wentzville was able to further customize their site to meet their needs.

Diana has been working at Wentzville since 2008.  The city’s web site was filled with useful information but difficult to navigate through. Updating the website wasn’t easy and because Wentzville was dependant on a developer to make the changes, it was also costly.
In 2009, Wentzville conducted an online survey to determine what features their residents wanted on the city’s website; the results determined residents wanted the website to be more capable of conducting city business online with easy, online access to city codes and records.

The City of Wentzville wanted their website to serve as the principal source of information for residents, businesses and visitors.

“The website is to serve as a portal to connect with citizenry, support our community’s merchants, businesses, and activities, and bring the people of Wentzville closer to each other and their government.”
    Wentzville City Administrator, Diana Wright

With the help of The Net Impact, Wentzville’s administrative team and department heads were able to collaborate and develop the new website’s architecture.  The partnership resulted in the site including more location specific photography and greater citizen connectivity tools such as the option to sign- up for notifications on page updates, an interactive calendar, and the ability for users to email website pages to others – all created through modules already existing in Auctori:city’s content management system.

In addition to their main website, Wentzville has a presence on Facebook and Twitter to more intensely engage the community and share information with its citizens.  Wentzvillemo.org successfully integrates social media into its online presence with feeds to their website.

“A truly engaged community expects and participates in a variety of communication avenues that provide them the information they want, when and how they want to receive it.” said Wright.

In order to truly understand how residents are actually interating with the website, the website administrators have access to the website’s analytical statistics to indicate the site’s most-used features.  Through Auctori:city, the City of Wentzville’s website administrators now have the ability to access, change, and add new pages and information to their own website 24/7 without the hassle of calling a developer to add information.

In Juggle.com’s interview with Diana Wright, she explained that in 2-3 years, the City of Wentzville will see an increase in communication with their citizens and intend to reach people through video, mobile devices.  The process thus far, she explained, was demanding but rewarding.  The success is due to the commitment of the city’s team and the usability of Auctori:city’s user-friendly website.  Its usability will allow the websites administrators to continue to enhance the services and information to citizens, businesses, and visitors.

“In working one on one with our city clients, we quickly learned community websites are much more than a place to display basic information about a city. City websites serve as a platform to help maintain a direct line of communication between the city and its residents, visitors, businesses and community leaders, and we developed Auctori:city with this in mind.  With Auctori:city, municipalities can now make changes easily and quickly ensuring their website visitors are accessing the most current information possible. In addition, the system’s flexibility and robust features allow cities to add character to their website,” said Andrea Bemis, Brand Manager of Auctori.

Unidev’s solution provides cities with the opportunity to strengthen their Internet presence and their overall brand reputation by giving users a professionally designed website and the power to maintain their content in real-time.  Auctori:city is a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution providing all of the benefits of cloud computing. In addition to standard content management features, Auctori:city is equipped with modules to meet the specific online needs of municipalities. These city centric modules include: a photo gallery, community calendar, a business directory, an articles and news module, and a form builder, which can calculate the statistics of online surveys.

Auctori:city has partnered with online interactive agency, The Net Impact to offer custom city web design, web development and Internet marketing services to Auctori:city clients. In addition, through their partnership with The Net Impact, Auctori:city offers social media marketing services such as city social media design and management. “Today’s citizens want a more active, participatory relationship with their government and to have 24/7 access to reliable and valuable information that affects their everyday lives, and there is no better vehicle to reach a community than a city’s website,” said Steve Thomas, President of The Net Impact. “We are proud to partner with Auctori:city to offer cities a functionality-based website that improves the direct interaction with their community.”
